Manufacturing Engineer

Circadian Solar is a leading player in the Concentrator Photovoltaics (CPV) systems sector. The Company is exploiting its innovative system-level design to compete with fossil fuels and alternative renewable energy technologies in supply of power and power applications in the world's sunbelt. The Company is now accelerating its manufacturing programme, and is recruiting high calibre, dedicated individuals with the ambition to develop their career in the Cleantech sector.

We are looking to recruit a Manufacturing Engineer to play a key role in the development and implementation of automated manufacturing solutions for the production of our CPV systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Development and implementation of automated manufacturing processes and related equipment compatible with very high volume, low cost production
  • Design and realisation of automated material flow solutions and optimisation of integrated transport, handling and storage systems
  • Definition and management of test programmes for newly automated manufacturing process steps
  • Transfer of prototype manufacturing to volume manufacturing
  • Maintaining the availability of prototype and pilot manufacturing equipment
  • Identification and selection of, and partnering with, global equipment suppliers
  • Continuous optimisation of automated manufacturing process steps and material flow solutions concerning both equipment and the process organisation
  • Ensuring the competitiveness of manufacturing processes and maintaining knowledge of state-of-the-art technologies and their relevance to the Company's manufacturing processes
  • Close liaison with Circadian's development and quality assurance teams to ensure that automated manufacturing and assembly equipment meet the requirements

Candidate Requirements

  • Excellent academic qualifications in engineering; further qualifications in manufacturing an advantage
  • Able to demonstrate several years of industrial experience in manufacturing engineering of high quality production in a high volume, low cost manufacturing environment, with a high level of automation, such as the optoelectronics sector
  • Further experience in:
    • the automation of manual and prototype manufacturing processes for high volume serial manufacturing
    • the design of machine and automation control systems (e.g. PLC)
    • manufacturing equipment maintenance
    • continuous improvement of automated manufacturing solutions
  • Able to derive suitable approaches for the automation of the Company's manufacturing processes through:
    • state-of-the-art knowledge of appropriate manufacturing technologies
    • benchmarking of suitable best practice manufacturing solutions.
  • Broad equipment supplier contact base and networks in the relevant fields
  • Experience in close collaboration with equipment suppliers and the successful realisation of cooperative engineering projects
  • Highly motivated and possessing excellent skills in people and project management, organisation and communications
  • Language skills (fluent in English, other languages an advantage)
  • Prepared to travel.

The role will be based in the UK, and involve significant collaboration with external partners mainly based in continental Europe.

This is an important engineering role in Circadian. A very competitive salary will be available for the right candidate.
